Captain Alan Willis

Capt. Alan grew up along the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Following in the footsteps of his ancestors, he took to the waters of Carteret County at a very young age swimming, surfing, and fishing in the sounds, waterways, and gulfstream. His father, also a charterboat captain, took him offshore at a very young age and passed down the traditions of offshore fishing that are unique to this area. The thrill of his first blue marlin, and he was hooked for good.

At the age of 15 Alan began mating in the cockpits of some of the most well known charter boats on the East Coast. He continued to mate as he studied marine biology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Offshore fishing was where Alan liked to be the most and he returned to the Crystal Coast and began fishing with the Calcutta in 2002. Aboard the Calcutta he participated in many tournaments, and scientific collaborations, including a dolphin tagging project with the NC Division of Marine Fisheries and the well known Tag A Giant program with Stanford and Duke. He remained with the boat until it sold.

In the winter of 2005 he joined the crew of the Frequent Flyer and helped the boat to a win in the 2006 Barta Boys and Girls Club Tournament and the 2006 Outstanding Overall Boat in the North Carolina Governor's Cup (best of seven tournament series). After over ten years in the cockpit, Capt. Alan is taking the helm of the Frequent Flyer and looks forward to taking you fishing soon!
